The City of Oakdale takes great pride in its beautiful urban tree canopy. In an effort to preserve these trees, the City has developed and adopted a Tree Preservation Ordinance. We recommend that you read through the Tree Preservation Ordinance prior to removal of any trees within the City Limits. To determine if your tree requires a permit for removal, please refer to the following guidelines:

Any Non-Oak Tree

• Measure up the trunk to a spot that is 3 feet from the ground.
• At that point, measure the diameter of the trunk (across, not around).
• If the trunk diameter is 24 inches or greater at the 3-foot mark, you will require a Tree Removal Permit. You may view or download an electronic version of this Permit by clicking the link provided below.

Any Oak Tree

• Measure up the trunk to a spot that is 3 feet from the ground.
• At that point, measure the diameter of the trunk (across, not around).
• If the trunk diameter is 3 inches or greater at the 3-foot mark, you will require a Tree Removal Permit. You may view or download an electronic version of this Permit by clicking the link provided below.
