Fair Housing

Your rights and responsibilities:

  • What should I do if my landlord is not making needed repairs?
  • What do I do if my tenant is damaging my rental?
  • Can a landlord force a tenant to move?
  • How much notice does a tenant need to give before moving?
  • How do I get my deposit back?
  • What can I deduct from the tenant’s deposit?
  • When can the rent be increased? By how much?
  • What are my rights as a disabled renter?
  • What is housing discrimination?

These are all common questions landlord and tenants have. The Stanislaus County CDBG Consortium (including the City of Oakdale) has contracted with Project Sentinel [ www.housing.org/modesto.htm ] to provide fair housing services that enable members of the community to have open and informed housing opportunities and to overcome housing discrimination. This is accomplished by conciliation and/or mediation, and when necessary, litigation. The main objective of the agency is to raise the level of awareness of fair housing rights and responsibilities among home seekers, owners, managers and the general public.

If you have tenant/landlord or housing discrimination issues, please contact Project Sentinel at (209) 236-1577.
