Our Fire Marshal\Division Chief Rick Fields directs the Department’s Fire Prevention Program. This position is considered management. The Fire Marshal\Division Chief conducts plan reviews, site inspections, code enforcements and public education. Inspections of new business and existing business are also conducted. This position is an integral part of our planning process in the City and works closely with our Building and Planning Departments. We attend the Planning Commission meetings, pre-agenda meetings and other meetings to assist in the planned development process. The Fire Marshal\Division Chief also conducts weed\fire hazard abatement inspections each year to reduce fire hazards that accumulate with weeds and waste material throughout the City. This is an aggressive and very successful program. If the property owner does not remove the fire hazard, by ordinance, the City will have the property cleaned and the property liened for restitution for the cost of the removal. The City owned property that requires cleaning is also coordinated by the Fire Marshal and has grown to become a large program that will exceed $30,000 this year. The Fire Marshal\Division Chief has automated the entire fire standards and they can be downloaded on the City’s web site.
