|Chief's Welcome Page|
My name is Lester Jenkins and I welcome you to the City Of Oakdale’s on-line section for The Oakdale Police Department. I hope this website will be informative and help you get to know our department and the people that comprise it. We currently have ten full-time civilians including our five dispatchers, 20 full-time police officers, eight reserve officers (level I’s and II’s) and about 50 volunteers. Our many volunteers allow us to maintain much higher service levels than we could if we had to rely on paid staff alone. Our level II reserves are also volunteers. Our many talented employees are dedicated to keeping Oakdale a safe community in which to live, visit, or work.
That being said we still have a challenging job with many of the same gang, drug and traffic issues endemic to the central valley and most of the U.S. The budget issues of the last five years have been challenging and have required creative measures to maintain the quality of life our citizens are accustomed to. We have focused on streamlining our processes, enhanced security systems, and adding more volunteers. These are just some of the changes made to increase efficiency in this time of reduced revenues.
It has been my honor to have served in nearly every police capacity since joining the Oakdale Police Department in 1990. I was very honored at the opportunity to fill the position of Chief of Police in January 2, 2012. Since then we have made several changes and have had to deal with difficult issues such as the loss of one of our dispatchers, Cathy Atkinson, and officer, Paul Katuszonek.
