Parks and Recreation Commission

MISSION STATEMENT The Parks and Recreation Commission’s mission is to assist in providing for the acquisition, protection, and enhancement of our city’s park lands and open space, as well as providing assistance in developing, implementing, and coordinating recreation and cultural services through property advisement of the City Council.

Duties of the Commission

The commission serves in an advisory capacity to the city council. Its duties are to recommend overall development of the city's parks system and the city's recreation program. It may research, review, and make recommendations on projects or questions initiated by the council, or initiate its own recommendations to the council.

Specific responsibilities include:

Periodic review of the general plan of the city with particular reference to the open space and recreation elements;

Yearly review and update of the parks and recreation commission master plan for parks;

Yearly review and update of properties and funds deriving from the ( Quimby Act ordinance);

Yearly review of departmental budget;

Such other responsibilities as may be determined to be necessary by the commission and/or department. ( Ord . No. 714, § 1 (part); Ord . No. 906, § 2.)
